My Maxtor need any driver ??

Hello,
I have 250GB maxtor one touch 4 external drive and now I can't connect it to my PC. When I connect it, My pc displayed me an error message, a problem found when installing new hardware.So, I check at device manager, there under the other device tab Yellow question mark sign appear USB device.So, My maxtor drive need driver or broken? Some say that it is plug and play don't need any driver. And My Operating system is Window Xp. Please Help me..........
