I cannot open my external drive on a mac but

Hello,
i have some info i would like transfer from my a mac from my wd external drive but every time i try i am asked to choose a programme from a list and when i try all of the programmes listed do not open it

there is usb wire out side and usb port inners side of hdd boxe . many time we faced usb port is damage . so it canot work properly so change it once atime to check it. and also look usb wire is working or not.
