computer is getting "open with" message Closed

Hello,

My daughter's computer started receiving "open with" messages any time she opens any program like Firefox, or any other program.  The only thing that works is Internet Explorer.  Also, after clicking on the program to open with, nothing happens.  I tried exing out of the open with, and can't.  I have to go to the task manager to quit it.  That program shows something like dll/32/run...I went to the control panel to delete some programs, but when I click on add/delete, the message says "can't access".  Do I need to take the computer to a tech?  Or can someone help?

Hello Fred,

Your daughter's computer seems to be infected with a virus.  Which one?  That leaves to be determined.

I first suggest that a full system scan be perfomed with the present antivirus application.

If this does not resolve the problem, we would need to know the processes presently running on the machine as well as the registry entries susceptible of hiding malware.  To do this, please download to her desktop and install Hyjackthis.  From the welcome page, request a scan and save a log.  Copy the log and paste it here.
