Hi,  I tried to message my friend on WhatsApp as they fell ill today. My messages were sent but not delivered so I guessed their phone is off which is understandable.  But when I tried to call on WhatsApp it says ringing (not calling) which I always thought meant that their phone is online and actually ringing.  So, messages not delivered but phone says ringing? The two seem contradictory.

Messages sent on WhatsApp may not be delivered due to network issues, the recipient's phone being off, or no active internet connection.

The "ringing" status during a WhatsApp call indicates that the call request has been sent and the recipient's device is being signaled to establish a connection. It doesn't necessarily mean the phone is physically ringing.

Consider alternative communication methods like SMS or other messaging platforms.
Try reaching out later when the recipient's phone may be turned on and connected to the internet.

Hey there! I understand your confusion is understandable when your messages don't arrive while WhatsApp still shows "ringing". One possible explanation could be generated by your own device as it attempts to establish contact with their device; so even though no messages have actually reached them yet, their phone might actually ring with WhatsApp signalling an attempt at making contact - not necessarily indicative that an actual call has started between you. Here's hoping this clarifies matters further!
