Hello,

i bought my son an HP Pavilion 9000 laptop for a gift a year ago, the warranty expired 74 days ago! He went to turn it on the only thing that he gets are the blue lights along the power bar; quick play, volume, DVD, etc. but when you stop pressing the power button the lights go out and nothing happens. I took to my IT department at work, but they only had time to pull each piece of ram one at a time with no changes in the screen (which is black) and nothing came on, they also pulled the battery. I don't know what to do, i spent $2500 on this laptop and hope top fix the problem. Please help! I'm very computer ignorant, you could say I'm a pothole along the information highway, so i need detailed step-by-step instructions. He has Vista on his computer.

Thanks!

Sorry no quick magic fixes. Your going to need to take it to a shop that KNOWS how to fix laptops. In some cases sending it back to HP might be the best bet.

It doesn't sound like a bad screen but you should test anyway. Connect an external monitor to the laptop - there should be a plug on the back. try to boot the PC and hit whatever Function key is needed to turn on the external monitor (most computesr use Fn + F8). If you get a display then it's a laptop screen problem.

Since the laptop does not sound like it's booting i suspect a motherboard problem. Few shops can or will try to fix motherboard problems.
