My acer labtop wont work

i got an acer labtop for christmas and now it is not working. When i press the power button the green light will come on and the fans start but only for a second or two and then it stops and the screen stays black. I dont know what to do to fix it can someone please help me???????

In most cases it's due to a power(electrical) issue. It may comes from the power cord or the battery.
The power cord possess normally a small LED diode that will turn green when connected to an AC outlet.
Concerning the battery check out if it's in the right place. Also check out if your RAM strips are correctly fixed to the ports.
Also before making any of these manipulations, check out whether the warranty will be void or not.
