Dvds dont work but cds do ?

my lap top has all of a sudden rejected playing any kind of dvd disk and will not even accept that they are in the drive, at first thought this was a problem with the hardware but it will stil play cd's whitch made me think it was soft ware but as i am not verry computer litterate if any one could help me resolve this matter it would be most apreciated

Please check whether you need to get its drivers updated or if the lens is not faulty causing this particular trouble.
