Sound Problem Please Help!!

my compaq 6720s hp laptop has a sound problem..i have tried many times to reinstall and uninstall the audio device but no use!!
the window pup's up and says:

audio device on high definition audio bus,,
an error occurred during installation of the device,,
the name is already in use as either a service name or a service display name.

P.S: i am using (windows xp)
please help!!
i am nearly getting crazy!!
