My pen drive is not formatting

hii i have a question to ask that whenever i am using ma pen drive and doubble click its icon in my computer it shows
the drive needs to be formatted
and when i give the command to format it
it takes a lot of time and then says that
windows was unable to complete formatting

My pen drive is not formatting
