Cursor wandering

Hello, Hey I have a latitude c510 laptop running win 2000, tried to update to xp but no success, I have had this for awhile works great but hear lately the cursor is wandering all over the screen. I use the mouse on the keyboard pad and when I try to put the cursor on something it just moves away, drives me crazy. When i reboot it works for awhile any infor would be greatly appreciated.
