Sound lost once headphones unplugged

My audio jack on my laptop is not working properly. Once a new browser is opened, it comes out of the audio jack fine. However, if you unplug the headphones, the sound does not come out of my laptop speakers and if i reinstall the headphones, the audio is no longer there anymore.

The only way to get the audio working again is to open a new tab and play the video again.

all volume is turned up.

Any suggestions?
