My dell laptorp will not turn on Closed

Question

My 4 year old dell laptop will not turn on . I bought a new power cord for it and it didn't solve my problem. The battery itself has been long dead. but now with the power cord pluged in it won't even show any power getting fed in to my computer. Don't know what to do freaking out because everything is on that computer! so upset please help

Configuration: Windows XP / Internet Explorer 8.0

The problem should be coming from its battery itself. I will advise you to try another battery on it before replacing it.
