DVD plays but CD's don't load

Hello,
I am trying to rip some of my CD's onto my toshiba laptop's media player. None of the CD's are even being found by the D:/ drive. Everywhere I look says that the drive is empty. I can watch DVD's just fine, it just will not read CD's. I found a thread telling me about upper and lower fliters I'm not convinced thats the cause. Any thoughts?
