Toshiba laptp *only* works w/half memory...

Toshiba A205-S5000 only works with 1GB memory chip (PC5300 DDR2 667MHz SDRAM). If you put the 2nd 1GB chip in the system the OS will not start at all.

Both 1GB memory chips test good. Either one of the memory chips will start the OS. It is just when you put memory in the remaining socket that kills the system. This system came from the factory with two of these 1GB chips installed. I only found out that the computer will run on 1GB by troubleshooting....

Other than telling me the motherboard may be bad, what do you have to offer?
