Laptop hardware problem
Closed
Hello,
A Dell Vostro 1000, and office computer, was soak in a recent rainstorm because of recent construction near the office. Now when you try to power it up it beeps loudly. No start up screen, no windows. The power light comes on and it just shows a black monitor, then computer beeps in a pattern, one long beep followed by two shorter beeps. Is this irrepairable dammage? Or is there a way to make it move ahead to the start up screen?

One long beep and two shorter beep Indicates a video error has occurred and the BIOS cannot initialize the video screen to display any additional information

First mistake was to turn it on. You'll need to take it to a technician, but I'm guessing that it's of no use. But get it checked first.

It sounds like overheating. Perhaps the added heat from charging the battery is making the difference between merely "hot" and overheating. Search around for a processor/motherboard temperature monitoring program, and compare the two situations. The processor heatsink may not have been properly installed, or came loose in shipping.
