I can not connect to the internet

hello i'm using windows xp home edition and I'm trying to connect to the internet. I was able to connect to the internet before malware rendered it disabled. Since then I have removed the malware but unfortunately it left me with the inability of connecting to the internet. I've deletec all of the cookies. I've tried both wirelessly and hard wired. Thanks for your help.
