Resetting User Password - mount -uw/ = no go

I have tried everything to get this password reset. It will not let me do it by inserting a disc and pressing C, or by pressing the option button. When I go into the single user mode (Command + S) and I type in mount -uw/ it comes back "Illegal Option" What can I do to get this password off my computer?!?

mount -uw /
rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone
shutdown -h now


did you try a space after the uw?

Yes, as soon as I hit return it goes back to localhost:/ root# again.

I have an iMac G3 that originally had OS 9 on it, but it currently is running on OS X 10.3.9

Doing a little more research now, I think I have an Open Firmware on it. I tried doing the memory thing where I took out the battery and moved the memory and did the cmmd + opt + p + r 3 times and that didnt work either. PLEASE HELP!!!!!
