Windows XP boot up help?

Hello,

ok, here's the deal, I turn on my computer does the hp screen and whatever but goes to black screen with blinking curser in the top left, i can power down and go to the boot menu, and select hard drive as the main boot thing and it boots fine, but i have to do that every time, how do i make it just work when i push the power button?

You might have a problem with the CMOS battery that powers the BIOS. Is your BIOS date being reset to years in the past?
