Hello,

I HAD A PROBLEM WITH MY COMPUTER AND DID A RESTORE AND ALSO HAD TO RUN VISTA AGAIN, NOW MY WD EXTERNAL HARDDRIVE IS NOT RECONZIED THE ERROR ASAYS THE DEVICE ATTACHED TO USB PORT SAYS NOT RECONIZED BY WINDOWS IT SAYS THE DEVICE HAS MALFUNCTION MY OPERATING SYSTEM IS WINDOW VISTA HOME PREMIUM GATEWAY 5420.

You may need to download the motherboard drivers (the USB driver) and install them. I would check the Gateway web site for the drivers.
