It could due to many reasons, such as incorrect wireless router configuration, incorrect way to connect to wireless network, wireless adapter driver problem, etc.
So, recheck wireless router setting and make sure it's correct. At the same time, also make sure you have installed wireless adapter correctly, and also activated wireless adapter (if you use built-in wireless adapter on laptop). Finally test to connect again.
