Dell lap top

Hello,
my dell lap top stopped workin on me at first it turned on with differant color lines on the screen then it went grey now black when i start it up i hear the things working and running inside but i cant see anything on the screen! is there anyone that can help me step by step on how to fix this problem. or take it apart please.

Please don't attempt to take it apart. There is little or nothing you can do to fix anything inside the laptop.

What you might do is connect an external monitor to the laptop to see if the problem is with the laptop screen or the video chip. There should be a PF key that activates the external monitor port.
