Hello, i have a mac that automatically boots but i forgot the password. by reseting password on command prompt i fear to loose my data. please help

thank you for the advice, but before i use those settings, pls assure me that i wont loose my data and applications. have you ever tried it? because i am worried this being a new account i may not be able to access some data and applications already there.
