Ok, before I even start, I'm a complete newbie when it comes to hardware issues.

I'm trying to recover a corrupted hard drive and install it as the second hard drive in my pc. I want to reformat the hard drive, and I know once the boot process is completed I can do that by right clicking on the icon for the drive in My Computer. But whenever I've got the corrupted drive plugged in, my computer crashes when Windows starts. I've tried safe mode, same thing.

Is there a way to reformat the second drive in any of the pre-Windows menus?

Hi,

You can format it even after connecting it as second harddisk. Just connect the

harddisk as slave and then start your OS which is in your first hardisk

and then format second hdd.

Note : If it contains bad sectors then right click on that drive-->properties-->

Click on "Tools" tab ---> Click on "Check Now" button and select the two

options---> click on "Start".

or

You can try this tool "killdisk". Just click on the below link

https://ccm.net/faq/2597-format-your-computer-using-killdisk

Download it and follow the instructions.
