Gateway laptop Closed

Question

Hello, 
Please help have a gateway laptop that has wrked fine for 3 plus yrs, this morning i open it up and the screen is black! but the unit is working all licght as usually are on. I tried the 30sec restart that has been spoke about below and nothing. I have even tried an externail monitor and that makes no diff even the fans is working, tried a cd and it played music. help please
