itunes wants to delete my ipod Closed

Hello, 

i recently tried to download an app that says i need to update my ipod. well, when i went into itunes to do this it said it was going to delete everything on my ipod? can anyone help me. it is muchly appreciated. thankss.

Configuration: Windows XP / Internet Explorer 8.0
