Step one: Get a resident scanning antivirus program.
Step two: Make sure the firewall on your router is setup, or each computer connected has a firewall. Only one is needed of the two there.
Step three: Surf smart! Don't download if you aren't sure, don't wander in shady places. You don't need protection if you don't go places you think you will be infected.
If you need to be secure beyond the normal means, please let me know.
