Disk check problems help please

Hello,
So I logged on my comp and a black screen appears saying disk check on c:. It's been doing this for about 2 days what can I do about it? Is there something wrong with the computer or is it supposed to be like this?

The more files you have on system the more time it will be taking.

I don't know what boot means but I can't log onto the computer till I turn it off then turn it on again then check disk pops up again then it says I could let it run. Or press a key to skip it

But it says it was complete but there was an unspecified error is there anything I could do to stop the disk check from running on it's own?
