Laptop shut off

Hello,

hi i have a HP windows vista G60 and it just shut down, I did teh steps you mention about unpluggin and taking battery out and turn it back on without it. It worked, but when I put the battery back in it said i had 3% power adn it shut off again, could this be because the battery needs to be replace cuz it works fine until i try to put the battery back.

PLEASE HELP!!
