No sound

Hello,
i have laptop dell vostro A860 i hv installed xp windows along with vista but no sound coming from both speakers and headphones
i tried to download sound software but it doesnt run and an errror comes that no media support is present
kindly help me how to overcome the problem and which sound software is correct one for my laptop and kindly give me advice regarding installing procedure

i dont know about pc model what did it mean from where i can find it
i only know it is vostro notebook A860
