Hello,

My old Macbook Pro hard drive has given up the ghost. I purchased a new one of a different size. The original drive is 80gb in size. The new one is 160gb. They are both the size number, 5400. The old one is a 5400.2, the new one is 5400.6. I figured I was safe if I went as close as possible.

I've replaced the drive per the instructions that I've found on the internet. Unfortunately, when I start up the computer it does not see the new drive. I have tried going into the Disk utility program, but it does not find the new disk to partition.

I was looking for something like a BIOS (Yes, I'm an old PC guy) to tell the computer that Ive changed the hard drive size. But, I cannot get any instructions that I've found to get me to that point.

Is there hope for this old computer, or did I waste my money on a new drive?

Any suggestions would be good. Right now, I have the things in pieces since it's not working.

Thanks,

Further information... I did find an external case for a sata drive that I had long since forgotten about. I plugged in both the old drive and the new one and...both of them work. :(

Anyone have any thoughts or is my thought of "my old computer is toast" accurate?
