No sound from any external speaker

Hello, if i use my laptop speakers it will sound but when i insert an external speaker, it wont sound anymore. i tried connecting the external speaker to another device but it wont work. I also tried headphones to the laptop but it wont work. There's also another thing, if i insert an audio jack, the computer can detect it but there is no sound coming out.pls help..
