No active mixers available, no sound

Hello,
Im running on a dell inspiron E1505 windows xp media edition. I currently do not have sound. I try to play music but a message appears saying there are no active mixers available and high definition audio bus wont download from the yellow update icon I recieve in the tool bar at the bottom of the screen. Each time I click that icon the following shows up:
It asks me do you want to install the updates. I click on the Express install (recommended) then I click install. After its done trying to load, the list of updates failed to install:

It will not download and the icon keeps appearing. The computer does not want to download service pack three for some reason but that is probably another issue I mainly want sound but if someone knows how to fix both my sound and installation issues that would be great
