Laptop wont connect to internet after virus

Hello,
I own a sony laptop that wont connect to the internet, it says limited connectivity but all the other computers work around the house. and for some reason windows media player opens when i turn on my laptop but it say error codec?? I tried the winsockxpfix and it didnt work and i have gone to my internet options and reset IE but still nothing seems to work and am still unsure of the virus is completely gone from my laptop. any advice?
