Problems Downloading Itunes

Hello,
I have windows XP on my computer and I am trying to dowload ITunes.
I have saved the download files to my hard drive and tried to run them.
Everytime it gets to a point and stops and gives the message below

"There is a problem with the Windows Installer Package. A program required to complete this install could not be run.
Contact your support personel or package vendor"

Have you installed all of the Windows XP updates? The newest versions of ITunes need the most recent version of Windows XP. As long as you have a legal version of XP, you can download and install the XP service packs and try to Install Itunes when you have XP updated.

Thanks for your quick reply.
I went on the Microsoft Website and ran all the updates I could find and then restarted my computer.
I then tried to instal Itunes and I got the same message again!
Is it possible that there is a specific update that I need?
I am puzzled/
