No audio output device is installed

Hello,

I have a intel notebook with windows 7 and my speakers are not working. the icon has a red circle with a cross in it. i have tried all the solutions in the forums like disabling the drivers or uninstalling them etc, but none of it works. does anyone know how to fix this please?
