Hello, Im trying to hook up a router to my laptop but it wont give me internet connection because for some odd reason I do not have an IP address.. The IP address shows up just 0's. I've had internet on my laptop before with a router and never had any problems. Anyone know why I wouldn't have an IP address? or how I can get one for my laptop? Thanks!

Windows Key + R type in "CMD" type ipconfig. check it, if it's still zeros type ipconfig /release then ipconfig /renew :D I hope this helped.
Go to Run
Type in CMD
Then in the new windows type in ipconfig
Then it should be there somewhere
For Windows Vista 'Only' ('I think')

Hi,

It is impossible that do not have Ip.

go to your networks connections

Right click on your actual connection

go to properties..Internet protocol (tcp /IP )
Select automatically obtain an Ip add.

Then click start Run

Type cmd

Once the window is open : type Ipconfig

It will provide you with your Ip add.
hi, that didn't work but thank you!

i have the same problem - don't know how my computer has no ip address, cos it's always worked before :-(
you can assign yourself an ip address though - in tcp/ip settings for internet use 198.168.2.100 - subnet mask is 255.255.255.000
these are general use addresses. should help. default gateway is same as ip address.
