                    hi Anupam,
I've taken care of your question because i suffered this before.
This is caused by disk errors. when you check the properties of the disk, you will the file system is raw, and both used space and free space are 0 bytes. it is really a terrible thing. and even if you try to use Error-checking or chkdsk, you will fail to fix it
when you suffered this, ok, please do not click yes format, you may try to ask for help from third party data recovery software with raw recovery feature. when you google raw recovery software, you will find a list of data recovery software. here, i just want to say choosing the one suitable for you
i only used two good recovery software
1. recuva
https://www.ccleaner.com/
freely support all popular os, but only for deletion recovery
2. data recovery wizard
this is a guide article: https://www.easeus.com/resource/repair-raw-disk.htm
i remembered it has a feature of raw recovery
so try the second may be a good choice

    hey anupam kashyap
I'm sorry to hear that. what is your operating system? I know if you do format, there will be little possibility for you to recover your precious files especiall under windows seven and windows vista.
And I agree with what zick gonna said, you are unable to repair it only based on chkdsk or error-chicking, because these two operations are unavailable to complete
no matter which restore software you use, i suggest you search in google, or check on some shareware sites, such as download, and choose the one that sits the current top downloads
and easeus data recovery software maybe a pretty good choice.
Good luck.
