Volume has a sound attached

Hello,
When i open my volume control and take the control off mute, I hear the sounds of waves. When i play anything in media player, the waves sound overrides the media.
How do I get rid of the waves sound. It was probably attached from an outside file.

sounds like you have some background sound effect is turned on. I would go to CONTROL PANEL and look for a Sound Effect Manager (that's what it's called in Vista) or some Audio manager icon (AC97 something). you want to select "none" for "environment". I hope this helps.
