Look on the front of your CD drive.

what does it say?

does it say CDROM? DVD ROM? etc
it says both along with (rw, cd, dvd)...if this helps, i've done the "regedit" part, but there seems not to be upper and lower filters to delete, as well as deleting the drive and letting it restore itself upon startup. nothing is working!
ps, my dvd drive won't light or open up unless i use a paper clip

in Start > Computer

can you right click the drive and eject successfully?

you may need to open up your PC and take out the cables and add them again.
no, it won't eject that way either. are you meaning open my computer up literally to check for loose cables?

Open the computer up when its powered OFF.

leave the power cable in as it makes the PC earthed (so you dont short any other component)

remove the power and data cable from the CD/DVD drive and turn the PC on.

Power it off and put the cables back in.

NOTE: they only go in ONE WAY.

if you put the power cable in, incorrectly you'll fry the drive. - its pretty obviously which way it goes in (match the shapes)

as for the data cable, same thing applies, theres a notch at the top which indicates where they go.

if this fails, id suggest replacing it.
