Newest software didn't recognize hdd

Hi! Got a big problem, my dad just installed the newest software from apple and his mac didn't recognise his hdd anymore... When he want to go on his hdd it says connection error...
Someone now how to fix this plz?

Old problem fixed! New problem now =p i found the hdd but now some documents are blocked on it... Can't open it...
