You could have a virus that is suppressing access to the AVG site. Check the posts about viruses.
Version 8.0 was already not supported on jannuary 2009, you had to update it manually to version 8.5
Version 8.5 was deprecated on jannuary 1st of 2009.
Now you only have to download and install the last version of AVG Free version 9.0:
