No sound except for skype

Hello, I installed a Windows 7 a few months ago in place of my windows vista. but at present I have no sound in my laptop except the skype sound. none of my drivers se
em to have a problem in fact the speaker symbol shows that it is working fine and can detect sound. please Help.Moreover, when I put in my earphones that also did not work.

thank you.. I can hear sound , listen to everything now through my earphones and through the laptop speakers.... thank you. I had actually tried this before but somehow did not work then. Thank you for responding so quickly too!
