"No audio output device is installed"

Hello,

I am getting the error "No audio output device is installed."

I've read all the other threads on this problem and have tried all suggestions, including disabling and enabling the device, searching for the latest driver updates, uninstalling the driver and restarting my computer, and ever restoring my system to before the latest batch of updates.

None have worked and I still have no sound. Does anyone have any other suggestions I can try, or could this be a hardware issue?
