It is possible that:
1. The hard drive has failed and the laptop is attempting to boot from the DVD drive (or is that a USB DVD player that you attached?)
2. You have change the boot order in the BIOS so that the DVD drive is the first drive the laptop attempts to boot from
If you remove the DVD does the laptop boot?
