How to shutdown my mac

can any one help me. I have a intresting problem with my mac G4, after using my mac i try to shut it down!! but it
would just restart up by it selft and when i hold the power buttom down it would shutdown, but it wuold not come on
back. for me to start it up back i have to unplug my Rpg cable or my power cord. What should i do ?
