Hdd not regonised in my comp and disk manager

Hello,

I have a wd 500gb hdd that was originally a external hdd. I had to do a fresh xp install on computer 1 but forgot to unplug my ext hdd. Ever since then i cannot access it. It is present in device manager but doesn't show in my computer or disk management. In device manager it says it is working properly.

I have now install it into computer 2 with still the same problem.

I don't mind losing the data. I just want to see if i can reassign a drive letter to the hdd.

Some times you can scroll down using the slider in the bottom pane of the Disk Management screen. Your missing drive might be listed as disk 4 or 5. You can then right click the box and format the drive.
