My Compaq evo1020 laptop

hiya,
I just got my compaq evo1020 from a garage sale. I try to boot it up and it either goes to ther bios setup or it asks me to start it in either safe mode or normal mode.
If I try to start it in either normal or safe it automatically goes to the bue screen of death.
Help please ^^

You could have either a bad hard disk or motherboard problems.

I suggest you try to boot from a Linux CD - If it can boot then you have verified that the motherboard is ok. I would then replace the hard drive and go on to install Windows.
