Unable to detect HDD while installing OS

Hello,
Acer 5920 Series - ZD1 --> HDD gets detected in bios + other devices and is fumctional but, when i boot from the XP installation disk, post moving ahead and just prior to the HDD size screen i get the following message:
Error :
Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer.
Make sure any hard disk drives are powered on and properly connected to your computer, and that any disk-related hardware configuration is correct. This may involve running a manufacturer - supplied diagnostic or setup program.
Setup cannot continue. To quit Setup, press F3

Please help me install XP or any OS on this HDD 160gb Hitachi....someone please provide a step-by-step solution to resolve the issue. Thanks!

Hello,
Try this 1
First check if you can find the option regarding the the SATA mode.
Go to BIOS and change the SATA mode to IDE/Compatible Mode. But the
performance decreases.
