Internet Explorer comes up & goes away

Hello,
I have a 12 year old HP Pavilion with Athlon xp processor, 512 mb/ 80gb hard drive
Just purchased a WiFi adapter, instalation went fine. worked for a few days.
Today I get on and I am still connected to WiFi, but when I click on Internet Explorer, the window comes up and then goes away.

What is wrong? and how do I fix it?

Hello,

This normally happens because of the add ons on Internet Explorer.

For getting rid of this trouble, please get through this:

Start> All Programs> Accesories> System Tools> Internet Explorer (No Add ons)

It should work normally. If ever, it doesn't work, please indicate so that we get to help you.

This did not work. I also ran MalewareBytes to check for any known viruses, it turned up 63 and I deleted them all. But still, when I click on Internet Explorer, the window comes up and goes away in a flash

Go to the Microsoft website, download and install Internet Explorer 8, it should do the trick.
