Hello,

My dell inspiron M5110 has resently randomly started dying out of no where. The first time it did it it took it about 5 tries to restart. then finally it just stayed off. I thought there was no hope so I got online with my phone and saw the post around here about the Static check or something like that where you unplug it and remove the battery and hold the power button for 30 seconds...this worked for me...but now it still will randomly die and i have to repull the battery and hold the power button about once every hour and if i dont then my computer will not restart...any ideas on what is causing this?

Hi supremenacho,

Please try the below mentioned steps and check if the problem fixes:

1. Download and install the latest BIOS from here: http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriverDetails/Product/inspiron-m511r?driverId=12NV4&osCode=WW1&fileId=2963412117

Note: Plug your computer to a good, working UPS before you update the BIOS. If you experience a loss of AC power or a significant voltage sag/spike during the BIOS flash, you will either have to buy a new BIOS chip or buy a new motherboard.

2. Check the AC Adapter port on the computer for broken or bent pins.

3. Run Dell Diagnostics. To run the diagnostics restart/power on the computer and start tapping the F12 Key when you see the Dell Logo, select Diagnostics from the Menu and let the test run. If the diagnostics fails and gives an error code please check this link for details about the error: https://www5.nohold.net/Dell/ukp.aspx?pid=3&ruleid=2591&login=1&donelr=1

Note: In case of expired warranty scenario, I would be able to provide limited support, which will not cover part replacement, software support and onsite technician.

Do reply with results.
